“You did the right thing,” Hera spoke resting her head on his shoulder. “Your actions were too rash Morpheus. I know you were trying to do good but it wasn’t right. You should have addressed it in a different way.”

“I know,” was all he said. “And I undid what I done. She’s awake now. She’s no longer under my spell.”

“Why didn’t you talk to me?” Hera asked. “Why didn’t you tell someone she was tampering with your dreams?”

“ I was…I was just tired of it. Of not being seen. Having no one to talk to.Because no one ever listens.” He spoke quietly. “And you of all people know what it’s like to be invisible Hera.”

Thinking of how her own exhusband had treated her Hera felt like she had been slapped in the face.

“…Sorry. That was harsh.”

“No. I understand,” she whispered. “But Morpheus I see you. You’re not invisible to me.”

“But none of it’s real, none of this-” he waved his arms taking in the beautiful sunset. They were sitting on some made up park bench. “-it’s not reality. It’s a dream. Nothing but a very exquisite dream.”

Hera leaned forward to press her forehead to the Gods, her hand covering his chest and feeling what felt like the small constant flutter of a heartbeat in his chest. “Morpheus I am here. In spirit but nothing has ever-“

“-I want to hold you,” he interrupted her shutting his eyes painfully. “I want to touch you but I am trapped here as this - this thing. I have no physical bodies Hera. Only illusions, only a presence in the dreams of living things. I cannot be with you the way you need. The way you need someone to be.” He grinned wryly, “I’m a keeper of dreams. Please get some rest and promise me you’ll give your heart to someone who’s worthy of it. I know that they are out there…..”

Her lashes felt wet as darkness took her and they fluttered open. She sighed, rubbing her tear stained cheeks as she rose from bed to meet the morning with a dazed smile. “Too late,” she murmured to the room and rose to a new day.
